THE STORY OF RUTH

Ruth 1–4

Kevin's Commentary (link to commentary)

You are encouraged to go through steps or process scripture in these steps:

  • Pray = in anticipation of what God wants you to discover. Thank God for the gift of love, for his love for you and the love that you share with others.
  • Read = with purpose look for what God is trying to communicate. You may want to read out of several translations and highlight key words.
  • Reflect = on the context and put yourself in the shoes of people at that time. Why do you think this is regarded as such a special story? What can you learn from Ruth’s story and example to help you in your life today?
    • God is ... What do we learn about God?
    • We are ... What do we learn about people?
    • What character traits are most evident in Ruth’s life? Which do you admire most? Why is that so?
    • What character traits would others say are most evident in your life? Which of Ruth’s character traits would you like to develop or develop more?
  • Apply = information without application is fruitless. Decide on some practical steps you can take for fulfill what God wants you to do. Think of someone who may be older, in need or overlooked. Decide what you can do to show them love and care in a practical way today.
  • Pray = yielding to God to empower you to do what the word convicted you to do. God, I want to be a loving, loyal and caring person like Ruth. Show me how to begin today, I pray.

Before the Next Time: Ask God to show you how you can work through, in his strength, any issues you are facing. Recall the pitfalls Samson fell into and ask for help to avoid any pitfalls in your life. Identify any areas where you need greater faithfulness and ask for God to help you have the same faithfulness Ruth had.
