HAVE MERCY ON ME
Psalm 51
Kevin's Commentary
You are encouraged to go through steps or process scripture in these steps:
- Pray = in anticipation of what God wants you to discover. Lord, prepare my heart and mind to be with You now. I bow before You as Lord and God.
- Read = with purpose look for what God is trying to communicate. You may want to read out of several translations and highlight key words.
- Reflect = on the context and put yourself in the shoes of people at that time. Why is it so important to confess your sins? How can you be confident that God will forgive you? What help does this psalm give you?
- God is ... What do we learn about God?
- We are ... What do we learn about people?
- What do you learn from Psalm 51 about confessing your sins? In what ways is this psalm helpful or encouraging to you?
- Have you ever experienced a deep sense of God’s forgiveness for something you’ve done wrong? How did it come about? What happened as a result?
- Apply = information without application is fruitless. Decide on some practical steps you can take for fulfill what God wants you to do. Find a quiet place to reflect on your life this week. List any sins you recall. Write them on paper, confess them, ask God’s forgiveness and then tear up the paper.
- Pray = yielding to God to empower you to do what the word convicted you to do. Thank God for the many times he has forgiven you and for his patience and understanding toward you.
