ELIJAH AND THE PROPHETS OF BAAL

1 Kings 16: 29—19:18

Kevin's Commentary

You are encouraged to go through steps or process scripture in these steps:

  • Pray = in anticipation of what God wants you to discover. Lord, I’m grateful for the good people who teach me so well what it means to follow You.
  • Read = with purpose look for what God is trying to communicate. You may want to read out of several translations and highlight key words.
  • Reflect = on the context and put yourself in the shoes of people at that time. The people didn’t trust God to feed them so they worshiped both the Lord and the idol Baal. Have you ever been tempted to do something like that? How can you avoid it?
    • God is ... What do we learn about God?
    • We are ... What do we learn about people?
    • Elijah was so spiritually dry and discouraged that he asked God to end his life. Have you ever felt great spiritual dryness or discouragement? Explain the situation.
    • What do you do when you feel spiritually dry? What gives you a sense of personal and spiritual renewal?
  • Apply = information without application is fruitless. Decide on some practical steps you can take for fulfill what God wants you to do. Is there anything you need that’s so big it’s hard to trust God to provide it? If so, write it on a piece of paper and next to it write; “God is big enough to do it.” Trust that.
  • Pray = yielding to God to empower you to do what the word convicted you to do. Lord, You proved Your power through Elijah. Help me to trust that You can provide anything I need.
