THE MOST EXCELLENT WAY
1 Corinthians 13
Kevin's Commentary
You are encouraged to go through steps or process scripture in these steps:
- Pray = in anticipation of what God wants you to discover. Thank You, my God, that You showed us what true love is when You sent Your beloved Son into the world.
- Read = with purpose look for what God is trying to communicate. You may want to read out of several translations and highlight key words.
- Reflect = on the context and put yourself in the shoes of people at that time. How would you describe the essence of real love? Which of the aspects of love that Paul mentions is most meaningful to you? Most challenging?
- God is ... What do we learn about God?
- We are ... What do we learn about people?
- First Corinthians 13 is often called “the love chapter” because it describes the essence of real love. What’s the greatest example of love you’ve seen or experienced?
- Why do you think that Paul says love is the greatest virtue? Do you agree? Explain your answer.
- Apply = information without application is fruitless. Decide on some practical steps you can take for fulfill what God wants you to do. Choose someone you love—a spouse, child, other relative or close friend—and show them your love today through one of the aspects of love Paul mentions.
- Pray = yielding to God to empower you to do what the word convicted you to do. Ask God to help you to show real love to him and all of your family and your friends.
